Security Preparedness Update From The Iriyah
Due to the deterioration in the security situation, and the attack that took place yesterday (23/11) on route 443 where a soldier was killed, the mayor, Haim Bibas, has announced that after discussions with all the security agencies, and in coordination with the Modiin police, that the Iriyah will reinforce security systems in the city, and increase security in the city in general and at educational institutions specifically.
Among other measures it was decided to renew the roadblocks during the morning hours at all entrances to the city in collaboration with the Modiin police, with security forces increasing their presence on main streets in the city. The security department will also aid the Modiin police in locating illegal workers within the city, carrying out spot checks of building sites and spot roadblocks at the entrances to the city and more.
25 security vehicles are operating in the city, including 10 patrol vehicles that will be backed up with additional patrols that will operate throughout the city with an emphasis on prominent activities and prevention next to educational institutions. This includes 4 security vehicles and another 8 additional ones from the security department.
The city inspectors department will be put under orders of the security department until further notice and will help keep order in the city, with an emphasis on building sites.
The Iriyah announced a few weeks ago that third parties will not be allowed entry to educational institutions without the approval of the municipality's security office (Kabat) and without prior coordination by parents with the school staff or ganenet. In addition the municipality will continue to strengthen security in educational institutions situated near the construction sites.
Iriyah security activities for educational institutions start early in the morning and continue after school hours and into the evening.
For ganim, the patrols will increase their inspections and comprehensive checks inside the ganim before the school day, during the day and at its end. The patrols will also conduct spot checks of passers by and more activities to prevent terrorist activities.
The mayor, Haim Bibas today held an additional security meeting in light of the escalation in terror incidents throughout the country.
It was decided that security at educational institutions will be increased, and the Iriyah will recruit additional security guards who will be placed at gan complexes. The guards will not enter the ganim and their role will solely be ensuring public safety. Iriyah employees will also be recruited for safeguarding the ganim.
The Iriyah also encourages residents, army veterans and police force pensioners interested in volunteering to guard educational institutions to call the security hotline at 08-9726217.
It was also decided that until further notice outdoor cleaning workers will not be allowed into schools, and indoor cleaners will only be permitted after a security check by the guard, and will be accompanied throughout the day by the janitor.
Activities in the afternoons will take place inside school buildings, including youth movement activities, with guards placed at the schools. Guards will be placed at chugim taking place outdoors, for example football chugim.
In addition the Iriyah will continue to place roadblocks at the entries to the city in cooperation with the Modiin police, and checks of building sites by security patrols, and city and building inspectors will be increased.

In an additional meeting that took place Monday morning, Oct 12th, it has been decided to carry on with the security measures that were put forward on Oct 8th, as detailed below.

The security guards will increase their checks and comprehensive sweeps of ganim and schools, before school starts, during school hours and after.
The Iriyah also operates a hotline specifically for ganim, connected to the ganim directly through a panic button, giving the ganenet immediate contact with the emergency hotline operator, even without picking up the phone, and with patrol cars being sent to the gan at the same time.

All building companies and contractors in the city have received warning letters about increased enforcement activities to locate employee sleeping areas - an illegal activity.
