After surviving the camps, 42-year-old Aldo, a physician by profession, lives a life of solitude in Budapest. 16-year-old Clara lives, against her will, with her older aunt, clinging to the hope that her father and mother will return. She meets Aldo, and they soon find in each other something that has long been missing from their lives. But when the Soviet power comes to power in Hungary, the father-daughter relationship between them is misinterpreted.
Director Barnabas Toth presents a lyrical film about the healing power of love in the midst of loss and trauma. "We've seen so many films about what happened before and during the Holocaust, but so few have shown us the fate of those who stayed with us, of those who returned," Toth said. The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival and was shortlisted for Best International Film Category for the Oscars in 2020.
