15/12-20/12 : Back to the Land of the Hasmoneans at Neot Kedumim - Chanukah 2017

Route 443, between Modiin and Route 1

You are invited to enter into the atmosphere of Chanukah and of the Hasmonean period, and enjoy a wide variety of activities during the olive harvest season.

During the activity you will hear stories about the Maccabees, and the miracle of the little jug of oil, and enjoy a fascinating guided tour for the whole family.

In order to enter into the spirit of the Hasmonean period, the whole family will be able to dress up as a model Maccabean family.

And then, a "Maccabean soldier" will welcome you, and send you to collect clues and answer riddles in ancient Hebrew script. Those solving the puzzle will be able to mint a coin using a unique mint.

You will also be able to prepare oil lamps just like those used by Judah Maccabee and his fighters. Anyone who wants to learn about clay oil lamps can meet the potter, who will demonstrate her work on the wheel, alongside a fascinating explanation.

If you thought that olive oil is the only oil used for light, at the exhibition "Bame Madlikin", a variety of oils will be on display, for example: radish oil, fish oil, castor oil and nut oil, as well as a variety of wicks made of different natural materials.

And now to work, the oil needs to be brought to the Menorah of the Temple! In a guided tour, you will harvest olives, join in olive oil production using ancient methods, visit an active olive press and hear about the great importance of the olive tree in ancient times. All this while walking on the same hills on which the Maccabees marched more than 2,000 years ago.
