Alex the Lion is the king of the urban jungle, the main attraction at New York Central Park's zoo. He and his best friends, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippopotamus, spend their entire lives captive and performing in front of a crowd of fans that comes especially to see them.
Marty the Zebra dreams of freedom, and plans to escape from the zoo together with his friends. From the zoo to the streets of New York City, and from New York to a voyage on which the animals secretly stow away, the penguins taking over the ship, all the animals wash up on a strange and mysterious beach ... in freedom!
