When refined classical elegance meets the distinctive sound of one of the fathers of Israeli rock, the result is a musical explosion like no other. Maestro Gil Shohat joins singer-songwriter Izhar Ashdot in a new, one-time production that takes apart and rebuilds the idea of “music without borders.”

On this evening, Ashdot’s electric guitar and polished sound weave into Shohat’s rich piano and orchestral textures, together breathing new life into the greatest classics of local rock and pop.

At the heart of the program are Ashdot’s biggest hits, from the gentle ballad “Tzilo Shel Yom Kayitz” to the love anthem “HaLeylot Shelanu.” The audience will be treated to “Ma Tomri,” the iconic song that burst onto the scene in 1992, alongside “BeChol Pa'am SheAni Mitahev (Bach MiChadash),” which grew out of that legendary show at the Hard Rock Cafe.

Shohat weaves two immortal masterpieces into these songs, both pillars of the classical world: Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, with its brilliant lightness and mathematical beauty, and movements from Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, a powerful Romantic work that demands supreme pianistic virtuosity.

The meeting of Rachmaninoff’s melodic drama and Ashdot’s one-of-a-kind melodies creates a fascinating dialogue in which guitar and piano become a single voice.
